Contribution: Teensy Gameduino shield

This week, I'm sharing a project by Anthony DiGirolamo. It's a handheld display for the Teensy or Adafruit Feather, using a Gameduino 3X. The whole design is in Anthony's repository . 


It's a 2-sided board, designed in KiCad, with the Teensy and Feather sockets on one side, Gameduino mounting on the other:

Here's how it stacks up, shown with a Teensy 4.1.  The USB-A socket is hooked up to the Teensy 4.1 - you can actually use an external keyboard or mouse! The coin cell on the right powers the Teensy's RTC.
 
With the battery the whole thing is properly handheld. This 2500mAh battery gives a runtime of about 5-8 hours, depending mostly on screen brightness. (The power used by the 600 MHz MCU and 72 MHz GPU are quite minor compared to the power required to drive the LCD backlight.)


Anthony also contributed a neat terminal add-on for the GD2 library. It draws a terminal with a scroll bar. It will be in the next gd2-lib release shortly.

Awesome stuff. It's great to see this all-open design approaching the capability level of the old Sony PSP, which used the same 480x272 screen.
