Dazzler first demos
The Gameduino 3X Dazzler Arduino boards came back from JLCPCB last week. These are black boards with gold surface finish. The assembled board has a level-shifter (using a 74LVC245 this time), and a microSD slot.
The first hand-assembled GD3X Dazzler. Ready to plug into anything Arduino-shaped.
With an Adafruit Metro M4, all plugged in. HDMI on the left and dual Wii classic controllers on the right.
The old Gameduino 1 had a boot screen, which I was quite fond of. It's back for the Dazzler! This makes it a bit more friendly than getting a blank screen -- as soon as you apply power and connect the HDMI, you should see this.
(At boot the onboard J1 CPU initializes the BT815, and draws this screen. The whole process takes about 1 second. There's a complete Swapforth environment running under the covers, doing all the system-management tasks.)
After boot, it acts just like any other Gameduino. Apart from the larger screen size, it's the same as any other Gameduino 3X. Here's the fizz demo, drawing 256 random circles at 60 Hz. It's really fast.
I've been hacking on some of the Gameduino demos so they draw reasonable things at all resolutions. There are now three Gameduino resolutions: 480x272, 800x480 and 1280x720. Here's the chess demo running double-sized.
And here's the spinning 3D object demo. Runs fine at 1280x720!
Thanks for reading. There will be more 720p graphics next week, and maybe a video.
